Crossing swing bridges Then missing the next track

Steve coming by with the coffee and drinks

Rob then outlines all the trails coming kinks

 

When the wind blows, When the sun shines

When the forecast’s bad

We simply keep riding our wilderness trail

And then we all feel so glad

 

Bus trips from Christchurch o’er mountains and rivers

Crossing the plains till a red light said “Stop” here

Mucked up our timetable, made us all late

Missed out on coffee by Nicole’s farm gate

 

When the beer flows, when the rocks blow

When we view the sights

We thank ‘Venture South for the many delights

We're pleased that we came along

 

There’s Donald and Helen and Kathryn and Robyn

There’s Trevor and Sharon and Margaret and Glenys

There’s Michael and Liz and that young fellow Geoff

The fastest, best group that came this way we bet

 

Lots of good food, lots of forest, lots of scenic views

But heads down, keep pedalling, boost power, change gear

Is what we all do each day

 

Rob can identify flora and fauna

Tells us a story of towns round the corner

Names every mountain and river we pass

Is up on the soil types that make such good grass

 

Maori folklore, tales of gold mines

Yarns of days of yore

He knows all the names of the flowers and the trees

Knows farming and e- con- o- mies

 

Steve fixes bikes when there’s something that goes wrong

Taking off chain guards, it won’t take him that long

Rides at the back of our eclectic group

A gen-e-ral whose look-ing after his troops

 

Waits for lost ones, buys the lunch buns

And provides the drinks

They're friendly and cheerful and really good guys 

But now we must say our goodbyes
